Varsity vs Heritage Hills Middle/High School Varsity vs Heritage Hills Middle/High School (1 - 2) Loss The Mt. Vernon boys' soccer season came to an end on Monday evening when the team fell to the Heritage Hills Patriots in the first round of sectionals. Mt. Vernon had an early opportunity to take the lead when senior Grant Doherty was fouled in the penalty area and earned a penalty kick, unfortunately the Patriot keeper made a spectacular save to keep the game scoreless. Both teams had multiple opportunities in the half to score but both defenses stayed strong and kept the game scoreless through 40 minutes. The second half started much the same, but the Patriots finally pulled ahead on a goal from a deep throw in. They added a second goal on a quick counter attack later to put the Wildcats in a 2-0 hole with their season on the line. Mt. Vernon could have hung their heads and given up but they didn't. They kept pushing forward and senior Aiden Paul earned another penalty kick for the Wildcats, Doherty connected on this one to cut the Patriot lead in half with just two minutes left. Unfortunately the Wildcats ran out of time and eventually fell 2-1. The loss ended the Wildcat season with a final record of 8-8 and a third place finish in the PAC. This was the final game in the careers of Mack Conyers, Grant Doherty, Logan Dutkiewizc, Landon Mitchell, Aiden Paul, and Aaron Weis.
