Varsity vs Heritage Hills Middle/High School Varsity vs Heritage Hills Middle/High School (1 - 2) Loss The Mt. Vernon Boys' soccer season came to an end on Monday night after a hard fought battle with Heritage Hills in the first round of sectionals. These two teams had met earlier in the season with Heritage Hills prevailing then as well, 1-0. Mt. Vernon had an early opportunity to pull ahead when senior Grant Doherty drew a foul in the penalty box setting up a penalty kick for the Cats, unfortunately the Patriot goalkeeper made the save to keep the game scoreless. The game remained scoreless through the first half. In the second half both teams continued to stay even until Heritage Hills finally scored a goal off of a deep throw in. Mt. Vernon never panicked and kept fighting. The Patriots added to their lead later in the half on a quick counter attack. Late in the game Mt. Vernon found some new life and pushed forward. Senior Aiden Paul drew a foul in the penalty area to give Mt. Vernon another shot at a penalty kick. This time Doherty delivered cutting the Patriot lead in half. The goal gave the Wildcats some hope, but unfortunately time ran out before they could find the equalizing goal. The Wildcat season ended with a final record of 8-8 and a third place finish in the PAC. Big thanks for the commitment and hard work put in by the whole team, especially the seniors who have helped revive the Mt. Vernon soccer program. This years seniors were Mack Conyers, Logan Dutkiewicz, Grant Doherty, Landon Mitchell, Aiden Paul and Aaron Weis.
