The Mt. Vernon boys’ soccer team took on the Harrison Warriors on Thursday evening in a non-conference contest. Harrison came out strong and showed good possession early and scored three minutes into the game. Mt. Vernon could have easily hung their heads and accepted defeat but the chose to continue fighting instead. Although the Warriors maintained control of the game throughout the first half, the Wildcats kept them in check. The Wildcats had a few good opportunities to score but just barely missed. Senior Landon Mitchell came close with a great shot in goal but put just barely over the goal. Mitchell played an overall good game for the Cats, stepping up big on defense while also contributing on offense. In the second half Mt. Vernon continued to hang tough with the Warriors and again had a few good looks at goal, but just couldn’t find the equalizer. Harrison eventually added an insurance goal to stretch the lead to 2. The Mt. Vernon defense was under pressure all night but played very solidly Junior Bobby Reynolds played well on the defense coming off the bench. The final score was 2-0. The Wildcats return to action on Tuesday at home against county and conference rival North Posey. The game will be senior night. Come out and support a great group of seniors and a great team.
