Boys Soccer Continues Winning Ways

The Mt. Vernon boys soccer team flipped the script on their season Monday night. The Wildcats have historically gotten off to a slow start but that was not the case against Princeton. Mt. Vernon pushed the ball into Princeton’s half early on and were rewarded with a goal in the third minute of the game. Junior Juan Vizcaino made a wonderful cross that senior Grant Doherty buried to give the Cats the lead. Junior Kyle Lindenschmidt connected with Doherty later in the half to stretch the lead. Mt. Vernon took the 2-0 lead into the break. Mt. Vernon didn’t score in the second half but the defense held strong and kept Princeton off the board too. Seniors Mack Conyers and Landon Mitchell controlled the middle of the field and the defense of seniors Logan Dutkiewizc, Aaron Weis, Aiden Paul, and sophomores Izaiah Gonzalez and Mason Higginson controlled the back. Junior Max Hamrick made several big saves to preserve his second shutout of the season. Mt. Vernon travels to Harrison on Thursday night before returning home next Tuesday for senior night against county rival North Posey.
