Mount Vernon High School

In weather that was much more conducive to fast races, the MVHS girls took part in the annual Mater Dei Invite. Their efforts did not disappoint! 18 schools sent runners to the line for this race and the team results are as follows: GIRLS - HIGH SCHOOL - 5K ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- TEAM Results ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Castle High School = 59 2. Princeton Community High Sc = 87 3. Evansville Memorial High Sc = 95 4. Evansville Mater Dei High S = 118 5. North Posey High School = 128 6. Evansville F.J. Reitz High = 155 7. South Knox High School = 190 8. Christian Academy Of Indian = 215 9. Mt. Vernon High School (Mt. = 227 10. Northeast Dubois High Schoo = 243 11. Silver Creek High School = 249 12. Hopkinsville = 303 Leading Mt. Vernon was Junior Brynn Davis. She ran a career PR in placing 37th out of 125 (23:17.8). She was pushed the whole race by MV's Freshman Maddie Abel and Senior Krissy Bazan. Abel had a breakout race finishing 40th (23:26.1) as she cut 45 seconds from a week ago. Krissy also ran a season best posting a 23:42.6 (51st) as she cut 50 seconds from her time a week ago and about 2 minutes from her time on the same course two weeks ago. Running a huge PR for herself and for this course was Senior Ashley Lilleston (24:16.4). She crossed in 63rd cutting a minute a minute and a half from one week ago. Freshman Makayla Schneider battled an ankle injury to cross the line in 68th (24:48.7). While she was hoping for a better time, this time was a minute and 40 seconds faster than her last time at this course just two weeks ago. Ellie Blackburn, sophomore, returned to the line up running after a two week injury sidelined her. She finished in 26:41.7 and will continue to get stronger each day. Finally senior Destin Gentry ran her career PR finishing the course in 27:14.7. Like the boys, the next race for the girls will be a class race at Crawford Country on 9/16/23.
